Third baseman Jimmy Collins jumps for the ball in a posed action shot, ca. 1905. Collins began his major league career with the Boston Beaneaters in 1895. He joined the Boston Americans as player-manager when they formed in 1901, and led them to the 1903 World Championship. He left for the Philadelphia Athletics in 1907, the same year the Americans became the Boston Red Sox.
