Central Square Theater

Opening in July 2008, the Central Square Theater, a new state-of-the-art theatrical arts facility in Cambridge, will become the permanent home of the Nora Theatre Company and the Underground Railway Theater. The project was made possible through a collaboration of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the City of Cambridge.

The Nora Theatre Company was founded in 1987 and offers contemporary and modern classic theater, new scripts, area premieres, and works that focus on women's voices. The Underground Railway Theater was founded in 1976 and offers a mixture of family and children's theater, larger-than-life shadow puppet shows, and original cabarets and full-length plays inspired by social and political issues. This will be the first permanent home for both theater companies.

Located at 450 Massachusetts Avenue, the Central Square Theater will offer two performance spaces: the black box Mainstage Theater, with seating for up to 200, and the smaller Studio. This new theatrical arts center will offer plays, classes, and programs from two Boston music/theater artists: Stan Strickland and Deborah Henson-Conant.

QED: An Evening with Richard Feynman
Peter Parnell's funny and moving play about the Nobel Prize-winning scientist Richard Feynman is directed by Jon Lipsky, stars Keith Jochim, and is a production of the Catalyst Collaborative @ MIT, a collaboration between Underground Railway Theater and MIT. Post-performance conversations will be led by scientists from MIT and Harvard, including some who knew Feynman personally.

Coming Up for Air: An AutoJAZZography
Presented by Central Square Theater and Alliger Arts, conceived and performed by Boston jazz artist Stan Strickland, and written and directed by Jon Lipsky, the theater website describes Coming Up for Air as a "riff about life and art that takes the audience on a dramatic musical odyssey of soulful discovery."
